2012 05 28 - Press Releases

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 28, 2012.

Kingston, ON. – Please find a statement from John Rafferty, MP (Thunder Bay – Rainy River) below concerning the flooding in and around Thunder Bay, Ontario.

“I would first like to praise local officials for their rapid and effective response to the flooding situation in Oliver Paipoonge, Conmee, Fort William First Nation and Thunder Bay.  There is still a substantial risk of flood related danger in these areas, so please keep monitoring local radio, television news, and websites for information and updates.

Members of my staff have been in contact with local officials in Oliver Paipoonge, Conmee, and Thunder Bay as well as the Red Cross, the Minister for Public Safety, and the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development.  We will continue to monitor the situation carefully and do whatever we can to assist these municipalities and organizations as needed.

Times like this are always a test of a people’s spirit and character.  Knowing this, I am certain that we will pull together - as individuals, families, and communities - to help one and other get through this most difficult time.  Stay strong.”
